Contemporary art
comes to the Château
For several years now, the Château de Monbazillac has been opening its doors to contemporary artistic creation.
In the Dordogne Valley, contemporary art where you least expect it.
Founded in Bergerac in 2007, the association Les Rives de l’Art (a non-profit organisation) is dedicated to promoting contemporary art. It benefits from a unique partnership with both the Cave and the Château de Monbazillac. Within this Renaissance building, listed as a Historic Monument, contemporary art has found its place since 2008.

The Éphémères Biennales
During the summer, from village to village along the River Dordogne, an artistic route brings together contemporary art and heritage.
Born from the idea of marking out a territory with works of art, the Biennales Ephémères bring together contemporary art and heritage in the middle reaches of the Dordogne, along a route open to the elements, during the summer. They propose a connection and resonance between the creations of visual artists and the heritage sites of the Bergerac area.
Through this connection, the Biennales invite visitors to delve into a local history that is often poorly understood, while also discovering monumental works created in situ in non-dedicated spaces.
Exhibitions
In the castle’s art contemporary rooms, the association Les Rives de l’Art regularly presents exhibitions, either monographic or thematic. Some are co-realised with the FRAC de Nouvelle-Aquitaine or present artists as part of the Résidences de l’Art en Dordogne programme.
In addition to these events, ÉPHÉMÈRES-entracte, an interlude between two Biennales ÉPHÉMÈRES, also takes place in the summer in the grounds of the château.
